Boggs Birdhouses

2014, Wood, Dimensions Vary

Layafette Greens Community Garden, Detroit, MI

I was commissioned by Compuware (via Megan Heeres) to create an installation in Layafette Greens Community Garden in Detroit. My idea was to build wooden birdhouses inspired by designs from students at the James and Grace Lee Boggs School. In workshops we sketched and chatted about how the built environment affects our mood and perceptions. We discussed what kinds of places make a great community. The project culminated in a joyous opening with all of my collaborators from the Boggs School and their families in the garden! I look forward to future opportunities to work with children on fun and informative art projects.
